Hailing from the Canadian cities of Toronto and Montreal, The Pails are a throwback to 80's UK Alt-Pop with a backbone of 90's American Indie Rock.

The Pails started off in 2018 as a one-song collaboration between two long-time musical friends. With guitar instrumentals scattered across his hard drive, Brendan lamented the unfinished state of his songs, wishing aloud that someone would write lyrics for him. Leona essentially took on the dare, coming back with lyrics and a melody to drape over the bones of the song. That first song led to more collaborations, leading to a full studio album project.

The Pails soundscape is the product of two very different musical journeys: In spite of their musical heritages, Brendan's musical experiences lean indie, and Leona's lean folk. As a result, the top layers of the songs are melancholy, almost-folksy melodies, while the bottom layers are driving and angsty, with aggressive instrumentations that let loose once in a while. This “Yin-Yang” interplay is there in every song, and has become the defining characteristic of The Pails.

Lyrically, the songs are personal and intimate portraits of the mundane: they speak about loss, difficulty and perseverance. The Pails acknowledges those realities with more than a touch of whimsy, reminding listeners that such things have no true power when named and faced.
